Sick Kids get guarantee of health coverage
Beginning in September children with a pre-existing medical condition will no longer be denied health insurance.
Under a key provision of the health care reform, 5 million Americans under the age of 19 with a pre-existing medical condition cannot be denied coverage by insurance companies. Covering consumers with pre-existing health problems has been part of the national health reform debate.
The law provides provisions for more doctor choices to consumers, specially for those who have been forced to pick up government coverage like Medicaid health insurance for the poor, typically paying medical providers less money.
Some tenets of the bill passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama will provide new coverage options in late September. However, most of the benefits intended to expand health insurance for more than 30 million Americans don't kick in for another four years. These changes will be more clearly defined earlier, unlike some of the regulations that still have to be defined in the next four years.
Choices are still very limited for people in current economic condition specially those who have lost their jobs. And most people who are turned to Medicaid due to lack of options are faced with limited choices for the care of themselves and their children.
